Then she handed me a card that offered “25% off on an RBTI test” at her office if I book an appointment within a week to get her “grand-opening discount.” Another card she gave me identified her as the owner and founder of Natural Health Strategies and listed her credentials as “RNHP, D.PSc.” (Since I am not sure which company made her dispenser, I have whited out the brand name.) My reading was in the alkaline range, which she said might mean various possibilities (that she rattled off), or could have been influenced by something I ate at the expo (which would mean that the test was meaningless). To carry out the test, she had me touch a pH strip to my tongue and compared the color of the strip to a scale on a hand-held dispenser that looked like the one pictured to the right. The woman, whose name was Rebecca Hale, displayed a poster that related saliva pH to about 20 health problems and invited people to test their saliva. As often happens, however, when expo participants are not carefully screened to be sure their offerings have a scientific basis, a reiki practitioner and an enthusiastic young woman who described herself as a naturopath were also there. I was familiar with most of them and can attest to the fact that they offer high-quality service. The event was held in a large room where more than 30 exhibitors answered questions and displayed literature on tables set up throughout the room. When things don't go exactly as you plan it creates an opportunity to do something else which can sometimes be better than your original plan.In November 2016, my residential community held a health expo to help families and individuals learn about local services such as home care, physical therapy, audiology, hospice, home modification, home organizers, and money management. However, this unprecedented challenge gave me the opportunity to rebrand my company, design a new website and begin to establish other revenue streams. In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, as a business that relies mostly on face-to-face sales, we saw a dramatic drop in income. I don't feel like I've had this opportunity in other roles that I've had, usually because my roles are limited to so many tasks, but at the moment I cover many roles. I have always thought of myself as a numbers person however, since running my own business I finally have an outlet for my creative side. I would say the best part of running my business is being able to use all my talents. By the end of my first year of university, I had managed to build a skincare routine using natural products that I had made. That's when I started experiment with making different products until I had made over 50 prototypes between my studies. Ever since I have been an advocate for more natural living. While a lot of the advice was hit and miss, with time my skin began to heal and recover from years of poor care and chemicals. Slowly, I started understanding my skin and what it needs. Eventually, I came across natural skincare remedies and blogs. About a year later when I realised my skin was no better, I started looking for alternatives.
